Remembering the life of Neil Patrick Perry (1)

Methuen - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Neil Patrick Perry, age 66, mayor and lifelong resident of Methuen, MA. Neil passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on December 13, 1957, in Methuen, Neil was the son of the late William and Patricia Dolores (Walsh) Perry. After graduating from Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1975, Neil furthered his education at the University of Lowell, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Spanish. His career began as a state-certified Transitional Bilingual Educator in the Methuen Public Schools, where he taught at Corliss, Central, and Oakland Avenue schools.
Following his years in public education, Neil embarked on a distinguished career at Raytheon that spanned over three decades. While there, he earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University. He later served as an adjunct professor of Accounting at Northern Essex Community College.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Neil was an active member of his community. He served as a director of the nonprofit Methuen Festival of Trees, as a coach and organizer with St. Theresa's Girls Softball, and as a volunteer with the Methuen Historical Society. His charitable work laid the foundation for his vision as mayor.
In 2019, Neil was elected mayor of Methuen, a role he described as the greatest job he ever had. From the outset, Neil expertly navigated the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. He would ultimately fulfill his campaign promises to restore trust and accountability to local government through his many accomplishments. Neil maintained his passion for education as chairperson of the Methuen School Committee. His dedication to the city was unwavering despite the health complications during his tenure.
Above all, his greatest joy was his four children, of whom he was immensely proud. He cherished quality time with family and friends, Boston Bruins hockey, trips to Wells Beach, Saturday visits with his favorite dog Marcy, and celebrating his Irish heritage as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
While these are a few examples of what Neil meant to his friends and family, his positive impact extended to many people around his community, many of whom have stories and fond memories of their own.
In addition to his parents, Neil was predeceased by his brother, Steven P. Perry. He is the loving father of Colin Perry and his wife, Janelle; Kieran Perry; Matthew Perry and his partner, Shannon; and Sean Perry and his spouse, Imogen. He is the cherished brother of William L. Perry and his partner, John. He also leaves behind extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall, 192 Broadway in Methuen.
